Absorbent Membranes

The absorbent pad or wicking pad, pulls off the liquid from the nitrocellulose membrane to keep up the capillary action during a chromatogrpahic test. In absecnce of an absorbent pad, the conjugate-analyte-buffer mix  will back flow down the nitrocellulose membrane and result in the background noise or possibly cause false positives.
